Prevention Education & Training
A significant piece of the work of addressing campus sexual misconduct, harassment and discrimination is the work of primary prevention. Effective primary prevention entails educating community members to understand issues related to:
- Consent
- Sexual assault
- Domestic and dating violence
- Stalking
- Bystander intervention
- Harassment, including Sexual Harassment
- Discrimination

Prevention education is ongoing. Prevention Education and Outreach will work with units and departments on developing a primary prevention plan that works for them. Prevention Education and Outreach can also develop or tailor an existing program to meet the needs of a group. For example, we offer specific resources for graduate students in STEM fields regarding safety in lab culture and field safety. Members of the campus community who want to schedule a program for their organization or unit should Request a Workshop or Consult with UChicago CARES.
For more information on resources and recommendations, see the Prevention Education Offering and Resources and Prevention Education Recommendations.
Prevention Education and Outreach also oversees the Annual Sexual Misconduct Prevention Training required for all faculty, students and staff at the University. Learn more.
We work with partners across campus in our approach to Prevention Education, including the Office of the Provost’s Sexual Misconduct Student Advisory Board, Health Promotion and Wellness, the Center for Identity + Inclusion, and UChicago HELP.
